What this is

WildlifeStats is a national research framework for wildlife rehabilitation, disease, injury, and One Health data. The framework provides a synthetic reference dataset, a searchable national database surface, a triage and referral assistant (Wildlife911) for finders of injured wildlife, a federal-first wildlife law tracker, a curated funders registry, and a methodology pipeline that would aggregate heterogeneous wildlife rehabilitation records into a common schema if real partner data were contributed under partner agreements.

Who it is for

The framework serves a range of users with different needs: wildlife disease researchers and biostatisticians who want micro-data and reproducible queries; state wildlife agency biologists who want their region in national context; partner wildlife rehabilitation organizations who want anonymized peer comparison; clinical practitioners and educators who want institutional reference content; finders of injured wildlife who want a calm, accurate first step. The site is designed so the same surfaces serve all of them without a separate “kids’ mode” or “expert mode” — progressive disclosure does the work.

What this is not

WildlifeStats is not a real-time surveillance system, not a clinical triage dispatcher, not legal advice, not a substitute for licensed wildlife rehabilitators, and not affiliated with any specific wildlife rehabilitation center, government agency, or academic institution. The current public dataset is synthetic; that is documented on every surface. Wildlife911’s Virginia edition is the deepest authored public guide, while the national state-directory layer is a public contact reference rather than a dispatch service.

Responsibility

WildlifeStats is built by Michael Oak Advisors, an institutional consulting firm serving mission-driven investment organizations. The framework is an independent research initiative not associated with any client engagement. Architectural decisions, data calibration, and content curation are the responsibility of the firm; published critiques and limitations are documented openly in the project’s spec corpus.

Status of the build

The public site is in active development. Phase 1 through Phase 6 ship the structural framework, data surface, section pages, and SEO baseline. Current public utility layers now include Wildlife911 Virginia plus a national state-directory layer, a federal-first law-watch page, and a curated funders registry. Phases still in flight include the partner data ingestion pipeline, the secure tier for credentialed researchers, the WREN AI assistant, the Wildlife911 LLM-driven pill, and the Flyway social-phenology early-warning pipeline. Each phase is documented in the repository’s handoff folder. Section pages note their build status individually.
